Blister foil is usually composed of multiple layers, combining aluminum with other materials to enhance performance:
Usually hard tempered aluminum (AA 8011, AA 8021 or AA 8079) acts as a barrier to light, humidité, oxygen and contaminants and can be soft or hard tempered depending on the application. Typically 20µm to 30µm thick
Allows the foil to bond to PVC, PVDC or other plastic materials, typically made up of vinyl, acrylic or polymer based adhesives, ensuring tablets are easily pushed in while maintaining a secure seal
Can include branding, batch numbers, dosage instructions or anti-counterfeiting measures Can be printed using flexographic, rotogravure or UV printing
Blister foil types Regular aluminium blister foil is used as a sealing material for push-in packaging, provides high humidity, oxygen and light protection, commonly used in pharmaceutical blister packaging
Printed aluminium blister foil Same as regular foil, but with custom printing (logo, batch number, expiry date) for enhanced product identification and branding
Cold Form Blister Foil (Al-Alu) Made from aluminium, nylon (OPA) and PVC or PVDC layers, allows cavity deep drawing Suitable for large tablets/capsules, offers 100% Moisture and light protection
Barrier protection, bloque l'humidité, oxygène, UV rays and gases Inviolable, prevents unauthorized access or contamination Extends shelf life, maintains drug integrity Personnalisation: can be printed with branding and regulatory information Compatibilité: suitable for PVC, PVDC, Aclar and other plastic films
