• Common temper for packaging foil is O (sag, uitgegloei) or lightly worked to preserve formability.

Hoekom 12 Micron Thickness?

• 12 microns is a widely used thickness for flexible packaging foil; it provides:
• Sufficient barrier and puncture resistance for many food and consumer goods.
• High adaptability to high-speed converting, drukwerk, and lamination lines.
• Excellent sealability when paired with compatible coatings and heat-sealing structures.
• Tolerances are typically tight, often ±0.5 μm, to ensure consistent performance across lots and batches.

Coating Options: What Makes It “Coated”

• Single-sided coatings: Often used for heat sealability and compatibility with the secondary packaging layers.
• Double-sided coatings: Employed when a specific adhesion, barrier, or aroma/ moisture control is required, especially in laminated structures.
• Common coating chemistries:
• Poliëtileen (PE/LDPE): Offers heat-sealability and barrier enhancements.
• Polipropileen (CPP) and Polyethylene terephthalate (PET): Provide mechanical stability and improved printing or lamination performance.
• Ethylene-vinyl alcohol (EVOH) and other barrier polymers: Used in high-barrier laminates for extended shelf life.

Core Properties and Performance Metrics

Mechanical and Forming Characteristics

• Vormbaarheid: Excellent for cold forming and thermoforming operations common in flexible packaging lines.
• Trek sterkte: Vir 8011 foil in the 12 μm range, typical values are in the lower hundreds of MPa when considering the foil’s microstructure, but the usable strength for packaging is often evaluated in terms of puncture resistance and seal integrity rather than raw metal tensile numbers. In practical terms, 12 μm 8011 foil offers reliable puncture resistance and good tear resistance for everyday packaging tasks.
• Verlenging: Annealed foil (O temper) can exhibit noticeable elongation before rupture, enabling tight wrapping and conformability to complex shapes, with practical elongation in the single-digit to low-teens percentage range depending on the exact processing and coating.

Barrier and Sealing Performance

• Barrier to moisture: Aluminum foil itself is an excellent moisture barrier; when combined with coatings, the overall WVTR (water vapor transmission rate) can be significantly reduced or tuned for specific products.
• Suurstof versperring: The laminate structure often governs oxygen transmission; EVOH or other high-barrier coatings can greatly reduce OTR (oxygen transmission rate) when needed.
• Sealing compatibility: Suitable heat-seal temperatures depend on the coating and lamination structure; typical ranges often align with standard food packaging equipment settings (byvoorbeeld, 120–180°C sealing zones, depending on the coating and mating materials).

Surface and Printability

• Surface finish: Foil surfaces can be highly polished, which supports high-quality printing on the films or coatings applied to the foil. Surface roughness and coating adhesion determine print fidelity and post-print gloss levels.
• Drukbaarheid: 8011 bedekte foelie 12 micron is compatible with flexographic, rotogravure, and offset printing, depending on the coating and printing ink system.

Veiligheid, Voldoening, and Recyclability

• Food-contact safety: Die 8011 alloy used in food-contact packaging complies with typical food-contact safety standards when coatings and process controls are appropriate.
• Recycling: Aluminiumfoelie is wyd herwinbaar; a correctly laminated and coated 12 μm foil may be integrated into recycling streams with standard metal recycling inputs, though coatings should be considered in the recycling process.
